Gerhard's Truth is his truth and personal to himself.
His truth is about personal struggle, falling down in the worst way imaginable but also about facing his demons and having the incredible courage and determination to overcome them, rebuild and renew.
There is no denying truth. And by confronting it, speaking about it, we build awareness and understanding. And through that, hopefully others can avoid the pitfalls, dangers and traps into which Gerhard fell and paid a terrible price for.
Gerhard's truth touches mental health, he suffered heavily from the symptoms of Asperger Syndrome (Autism Spectrum), he suffered from the loneliness it brings and the frustrations of our marriage to each other. He was part of the LGBT community and he yearned for its acceptance.
It left him vulnerable to the negative underbelly of society.
Gerhard's truth is about being introduced to Class A drugs as he sought out companionship and acceptance. Drugs that wrought the most severe damage on him and almost destroyed him.
But it didn't. He faced and overcame it. His journey was to be a long one. Asperger's is not something that is cured, but through understanding and engagement of both of us, it could be managed and our relationship built upon it.
Gerhard's truth is about a new journey that had just begun, but cut short by the actions of someone else or others.
